Pelikula means film in Filipino. pelikula.ph will list the film screenings in the Philippines that never make it to a mall cinema’s schedule: festivals, microcinemas, film society and campus screenings, cultural-institute film weeks, and pop-ups in cafés, galleries and barangay halls. We start in Cebu, then add Metro Manila and Davao.
Why
Filipino independent and regional films are screened every week, but the announcements are scattered across Facebook pages, Instagram posts and group chats. Unless you already follow the right twenty pages, you find out the day after. Mall showtimes are easy to find elsewhere. These screenings aren’t, and that’s the gap we want to fill.
What we list
- Public screenings only. Free, ticketed or RSVP, as long as anyone can come. Cast and crew screenings and other invite-only events stay off.
- Festivals and independent screenings. No regular mall showtimes. A mall cinema appears only when it hosts a festival, a premiere, a Q&A or a limited indie run.
- Filipino cinema first, in every language it’s made in: Tagalog, Cebuano, Hiligaynon and the rest. Film weeks from cultural institutes are listed too.
How we work
- Every listing shows its source and when we last checked it. A screening counts as confirmed only when it comes from the organizer’s own page, e-mail or website. Reposts are tips until we trace them back.
- Changes stay visible. A cancelled or moved screening is marked as such, not quietly deleted.
- Titles as the makers gave them. We show a film’s original title and never translate it ourselves. An English title appears only when it’s the film’s official one.
- Posters only with permission. Until the organizer or filmmaker says yes, a listing gets a generated picture in our own style instead.
- People get professional facts only: credits and a short bio where there’s a public one. No photos unless the person gives us one, and anyone can ask for a correction or removal.
The rules we keep
- Listing a screening is free, and stays free.
- What we put in the spotlight is our choice. Anything paid for is labelled as paid, and there’s never more than one paid spotlight per city per day.
- No ads and no ad networks. We count visits with Google Analytics, and only if you accept its cookies. The site should load fast on a phone with mobile data.
